Baltimore Wharf - London

Baltimore Wharf

The Baltimore Wharf regeneration area is part of the grander redevelopment of East London and firmly a part of the London 2012 legacy. It is to be seen as a flagship of sustainability and a beacon of London’s future social and economic growth.

Sustainable Regeneration in the UK

The Baltimore Tower is to be the latest addition to this regeneration project. The plan is to create series of apartments with a gym, bar, restaurant and cinema that is to be at the forefront of new urban living. The tower is to replace the existing concrete tower with a piece of architecture that is to be iconic and long lasting.

Baltimore Wharf

One of the unique focal points of the structure is the twisting feature of the tower itself. The project’s architects are Skidmore Owings and Merrill who are world leaders in design innovation for urban planning projects. They seamlessly merge design features with inventive solutions that create not only timeless architecture but true examples of aspirational living. Baltimore Tower sees balconies placed as a reflective ribbon around the tower’s core. This unique visual structure of the tower will provide comfort and cover for residents and will be another iconic addition to the Canary Wharf skyline.

Being such an integral feature of the whole product the specifications of the balconies had to comply with the latest building standards. The original balconies were designed to be used with FSC® certified hardwood decking which would have involved the cutting down of up to 9500 square feet of forest which did not fit in with the sustainable legacy that the regeneration project demanded.

Consistency, Efficiency, Quality

Timco Wood composite timber was recommended to the project by O’Shea Construction as our decking is a combination of FSC® certified eucalyptus with recycled HDPE plastic making it an ideal solution to the sustainability issue the project faced.

However there was still a competitive tender process to undergo with our decking being among various other products to be potentially used as an alternative to hardwood. Our composite decking comfortably passed the necessary requirements of being both sustainable and structurally adequate for the project but also the strict aesthetic standards of the architects. Our charcoal grey decking was selected for its modern look that will also stand the test of time. As the building of Baltimore Tower is an ongoing project both O’ Shea and Skidmore Owings and Merrill agreed that ours was a product that could be relied upon no matter when an order was placed.

We also have the ability and successful track record of handling orders of large quantities for significant projects on time and can adapt to situations as they arrive. We are proud to have been selected for the Baltimore Tower project which will help to reinvigorate the Canary Wharf skyline and further establish London as an international beacon for architecture and development.
