Timco Wood spent an enjoyable day at the Cricket

Following on from England’s dramatic win against New Zealand in the recent One Day Internationals we, like many others, have again got the cricket bug. We were invited to attend the Presidents Day at Southill Park Cricket Club where last year we were involved in the refurbishment of their Cricket Pavilion.

Southill Park Cricket Club

The Grand Tour

We have kept in regular contact with the staff at ECB affiliated Southill Park Cricket Club who have been only positive with their comments on the new decking and pavilion refurbishment and we have had an open invitation to attend a match for some time. With the weather now improving and cricket spirits high we decided to take in a match between Southill’s first XI vs. Eversholt first XI.

We arrived before the match began and were treated to a tour of the new facilities which involved a revamp of the inside of the Pavilion including the bar area and toilet facilities as well as the outside where our composite decking is doing the team proud.

A Winning Start

Seeing our composite decking fully installed as part of the overall improvement of the amenities of Southill Park Cricket Club which is situated on the impressive Whitbread estate was a source of great pride for us. Because Southill Park Cricket Club is associated with the England Cricket Board our decking had to undergo a series of rigorous tests before we could be considered for this purpose. The testing was carried out by the leading sports product testing company, Labosport and our composite material outperformed traditional timber across the whole testing spectrum.

The real test however was how staff and players would react to the material. And we are again proud to say we passed that test with flying colours with only positive comments said about the pavilion’s new decking.

Back to the cricket and Southill Park were put into bat first after losing the toss. Whether it was our presence at the match or having been boosted by England’s exploits being put in first did not dismay the team who scored a respectable 241 for 7 in 45 overs with a fine 107 from Lee Hoggett. After lunch the Southill Park bowlers and fielders put on an even more impressive display by seeing Eversholt all out for 166 with George Darlow taking a 5fer, a victory of 75 runs.
