Our Commitment to Green Construction

Eco Friendly Construction

At Timco Wood all of our composite timber products from our composite decking to our composite cladding, from our fencing to our pergolas are all FSC certified and are made with fully recycled HDPE plastics. It is important for us to maintain an environmentally friendly stance and be a leader in green construction materials in the UK and internationally. By having a commitment to eco-friendly building materials and by being certified by the Rainforest Alliance and the Forest Stewardship Council we are able to support sustainable forestry and environmentally acceptable construction practices. With so much construction in the UK and around the world it is important that both construction companies and consumers know not only where their products have come from but know that they were from sustainable sources. We believe that by being a committed Green construction we can enact positive change throughout the industry and beyond one building project at a time.

Why Green Building, Sustainable Design and Eco-Friendly Construction are important

Eco-friendly construction materials still look and feel great to use and are easy to work with from an industry perspective too. They simply have the added bonus of being good for the environment.

“Increasing the use of wood in construction can reduce the environmental footprint of a building upfront, during its lifetime, and at the end of it.” Forest Stewardship Council

Our Eucalyptus wood is taken from responsibly managed areas which mean that the wood used in all of Timco Wood composite decking, cladding, fencing and other materials is sustainable. Responsible management of forest wood used in construction maintains the important resource of timber while reducing greenhouse gasses and increasing global oxygen production. Lumber that is not from responsibly maintained areas does not guarantee this.

Our continued efforts towards sustainable construction practices means that we always strive to reduce the environmental impact of our products wherever possible. Also, the specific nature of composite timber itself means that it is a longer lasting alternative to traditional wood which further reduces the impact on forests.

Recyclable and Renewable

In addition to the renewable nature of the eucalyptus wood used in our composite wood products we also have a recyclable aspect in our products in terms of the 40% HDPE plastic content across our entire product range.

We use clean and ethically treated HDPE plastic that would otherwise have been used in landfill as a way to re-use the plastic content and extend its working life considerable. The plastic we use is high quality and is a real and practical use of the material.

You can feel happy in the knowledge that our product has been made with diligence and care but also has a positive impact on the environment compared with other less eco-friendly construction products.
